The 26-year-old has made just six Premier League starts for the Red Devils since joining them in 2020 and has clocked only 21 minutes on the pitch in the 2023/24 season thus far.
The midfielder is also wanted by two other European giants, namely Barcelona and Juventus but Frankfurt are currently the front-runners to secure his signature. It remains to be seen which club the former Ajax star eventually ends up joining in the new year.
